A Crace man has been charged with a range of offences after a gun was allegedly used to threaten a woman and steal her car in Watson this morning (1 May).

Police received a report at about 8:30 am that a man wearing dark clothing with his face covered demanded the woman to hand over keys to a Tesla, which was parked outside.

The alleged victim was able to give police location updates for her car, but an original attempt by police to intercept the vehicle in Downer was unsuccessful.

There was a short pursuit that was called off due to concerns for the safety of other drivers.

Officers from ACT Policing Criminal Investigations, Operation TORIC, City Station, Gungahlin Station, Family Violence, and AFP Specialist Response established a cordon in Ainslie, where a 32-year-old man was arrested, with the vehicle recovered at about 9:05 am.

The man is scheduled to front ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday (2 May), charged with aggravated robbery, driving a stolen motor vehicle, furious driving, and failing to stop for police.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dash-cam footage of the incident, has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, quoting reference 7418622.
