A Waramanga man has been charged with multiple driving offences after allegedly failing to stop for police and crashing into a building.
Police conducting routine patrols spotted a black Mazda speeding along Mirrabei Drive, Ngunnawal, at about 3:30 pm on Tuesday (3 October).
“Officers were able to locate the vehicle a short distance later and attempted to conduct a traffic stop,” an ACT Policing statement said.
“The vehicle failed to stop for police before accelerating to speeds significantly higher than the posted limit.”
Stop sticks were deployed, which successfully deflated one front tyre and caused the vehicle to slow down.
However, the driver is accused of continuing to drive erratically, almost hitting a bus.
Police said they observed the vehicle driving along grass median strips, on the wrong side of the road and onto footpaths.
A short time later, the vehicle crashed into a residential building in Gungahlin at a low speed.
The 25-year-old man believed to have been behind the wheel is then accused of trying to flee the scene before he was arrested.
The man was transported to the ACT Watchhouse where he was charged with failing to stop a motor vehicle for police, dangerous driving, driving an unregistered vehicle, using an uninsured vehicle and driving on a suspended licence.
He’s scheduled to front the ACT Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, 4 October).
