ACT Policing has made a public plea for a man who allegedly tried to rob a Mitchell bottle shop armed with a knife.

Officers have released footage they believe depicts Mitchell Jacka demanding cash from a female worker at about 5:05 pm on Friday (16 February).

The woman fled the shop to get help, injuring herself as she fell from the counter.

A nearby shopkeeper and others attended the bottle shop before there was an altercation with Mr Jacka.

He eventually dropped several items he had been holding, including the till, and fled the scene.

ACT Policing Detective Inspector Matt Sprague said officers have been speaking with Mr Jacka’s friends and family, and felt now was the best time to come forward and ask the community for help.

However he warned Mr Jacka should not be approached.

“We are concerned because he did [allegedly] use an edged weapon during this particular offence,” Det Insp Sprague said.

“He is considered a threat to the community.”

It’s believed police also have forensic evidence which ties Mr Jacka to the scene.

Anyone who can confirm Mr Jacka’s whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, quoting INV-6498. Information can be provided anonymously.
