Work on the duplication of Horse Park Drive from Anthony Rolfe Avenue to Mulligans Flat Road will start in coming weeks with the successful project tenders announced today.

“I am pleased to announce Canberra Contractors Pty Ltd as the successful construction contractor and AECOM as the supervision contractor to continue the duplication of Horse Park Drive from Anthony Rolfe Avenue to Mulligans Flat Road,” said Minister for Transport and City Services Meegan Fitzharris.

“This signifies the next step in this critical road infrastructure project which will deliver six kilometres of dual carriageway.

“Due to start in April 2017 and completed in late 2018, these works will build on the construction works currently underway between Well Station Drive and Anthony Rolfe Avenue, which will be completed in mid 2017.

“The upgrade will include new traffic lights at Francis Forde Boulevard, Katherine Avenue south and Mulligans Flat Road, indented bus stops adjacent to the north and southbound carriageways and improved pedestrian facilities.

“This will improve capacity and safety on this important arterial road which is currently used by nearly 18,000 vehicles each day.

“Work will also start in the second half of 2017 to complete the duplication of the road between Well Station Drive and the Federal Highway. The phasing of this work was required to allow time for geotechnical issues to be addressed.

“Other road upgrade projects currently underway in Gungahlin include the duplication of Gundaroo Drive. Earthworks are progressing well for the construction of the new carriageway which is expected to be completed in mid 2017 when works will transfer to the widening of the existing carriageway.”
