Canberrans have once again proved themselves lovers of a royally posh name for their little princesses, with Charlotte taking out the top spot for girls and Oliver being the most popular boys’ name.

Charlotte – chosen by the Cambridges for their daughter – has reigned supreme three years in a row in Canberra.

Charlotte has now been in Canberra’s top ten list every single year since 2003.

But five names not seen in last year’s list made the top ten – Isla, Evelyn, Zoe, Ava and Freya.

Other popular names like Amelia, Ella, Grace and Hazel all made a reappearance from last year’s list.

The royal Henry, long the name of kings and the official moniker of Prince Harry, came second, followed by the princely William in the top ten boys’ list.

But the top spot was taken out by the unroyal but, nonetheless, very popular name, Oliver.

Oliver has been popular in the ACT for a long time. It has been in the top ten since 2008 and has topped the list for the second year.

Last year it came in equal first along with Henry.

Biblical names were also popular. Elijah, Levi and Noah all made an appearance in the top ten boys’ name list this year.
