ACT Policing has arrested 23 people following a blitz on shoplifting in the Canberra’s south in the past few weeks.
Officers from ACT Policing’s Crime Reduction Team worked with loss prevention officers from various stores to identify and apprehend shoplifters.
During the operation so far 23 people have been arrested for minor theft and one person was apprehend for trespassing after failing to comply with a banning notice.
Superintendent Crime Reduction Cath Grassick said the Crime Reduction Team would continue to work to combat theft this holiday season.
“Theft is a major issue for Canberra retailers and officers from The Crime Reduction Team will continue to work closely with retailers to apprehend those responsible,” Superintendent Grassick said.
“I want to remind people that shoplifting is a crime and as we have said in the past we and broader community will not tolerate anyone thinking stealing is acceptable.”
ACT Policing will conduct further operations targeting shoplifting in the coming weeks.
