Police seek witnesses to suspicious fire in Mitchell

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses and dash-cam footage of a suspicious fire at a police facility in Mitchell earlier today (Monday, 12 August 2019).

About 4.40am, police were called to the ACT Policing Exhibit Management Centre (EMC) on Vicars Street following reports of a vehicle fire.

Upon arrival, police observed a vehicle to be well alight within the secure gates of the EMC.

ACT Fire & Rescue attended and extinguished the fire. The vehicle itself sustained significant damage, while two other vehicles were damaged by the fire’s radiant heat. No other property or building structure was damaged during the incident.

ACT Policing is reviewing CCTV footage from the EMC and are following up a number of lines of enquiry.

Detective Acting Station Sergeant Mark Rowswell appealed for witnesses to come forward.

“I would strongly urge anyone with information on this incident to contact police or Crime Stoppers immediately,” Detective Acting Station Sergeant Rowswell said.

ACT Policing are conducting a review of security arrangements at the EMC following the incident.
