Casey residents Erika and her husband Tony run two of Canberra’s Subway restaurants and as small business owners with two young children are always extremely busy. Despite this Erika manages to volunteer her time and provide donations to various charities in the region.
For the past few years Erika has organized events to raise money for Cancer related charities such as Pink Ribbon, Movember and Dragons Abreast in Canberra – last year she organized a particularly successful trivia night, with all proceeds going towards Dragons Abreast Canberra.
Erika has provided food vouchers for some of Canberra’s homeless, donates to the Yellow Van, volunteers on school P&C committees, provides free platters of food for community groups and can even been seen giving a warm cup of coffee to those in need when they pass by her shop.
Erika is not paid to do this work, nor does she do it for the recognition, she is simply a beautiful person who is doing her bit for her local community and I feel that encapsulates what a community hero should be!
Erika has been nominated by a friend and fellow Casey resident as a Community Hero for the Independent Property Group’s Change Reaction. Change Reaction is about finding a community hero who will decide who which local charity will receive a $20,000 donation from the Independent Property Group.
Erika has chosen Lifeline Canberra as her local charity for Change Reaction. “I have chosen Lifeline Canberra as my charity of choice, they provide such an important service to our community and are currently struggling for funds to support their ongoing work.”
