Police are calling for witnesses to a major brawl in Gungahlin on the weekend, in which it is alleged makeshift weapons were used and multiple people were injured.

Officers were called to Siren Bar over reports of a violent disturbance at about 8:30 pm on Saturday (22 April), ACT Policing said.

Gungahlin police initially responded, but due to the number of people involved and the continuation of the violence, officers from other areas were also called to the scene.

“Chairs, tables and bottles were used as weapons during the brawl with several people, including uninvolved patrons, sustaining injuries,” police allege.

Two men were arrested, charged with affray and will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court in May.

Police want to speak to witnesses who have not yet spoken to them, including anyone with mobile phone footage of the incident.

North District’s Detective Superintendent Mick Calatzis said it was disappointing to see police resources being diverted away from other priority jobs.

“We don’t tolerate any type of violence and our officers did a great job in their response and identifying those who we will allege committed these offences,” he said.

Anyone with information that could assist police can contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000, or on the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Quote reference 7411321.
