The expansion of shops at Amaroo is continuing with the news that Aldi Australia will be opening a new store on 1 August in Pioneer Street, in the heart of Amaroo, near the main shopping village.

The new supermarket comes as Canberra’s first build-to-rent project of 107 residential apartments at Empire Global’s Marquee Amaroo was filled with tenants in just seven weeks.

Aldi Australia NSW managing director Alex Foster said the new store will have a modern design with better product displays, including redesigned shelving and an expanded wooden produce bay.

“We’re excited to be opening our new store in Amaroo and look forward to showing local residents the difference Aldi can make to their wallets and lifestyles,” Mr Foster said.

He also said there will be a number of special buys on offer which will “not be available collectively in any other store”.

Commercial property manager Alex Smith said the introduction of Aldi to Amaroo will increase competition and choice for residents living in the area.

“With two large supermarkets, there will be an increase of customers flowing to the centre, creating opportunities for local businesses,” Mr Smith said.

“The strong population growth of the area is the primary reason we chose this location. The store will support jobs for 15 to 20 full and part-time employees, offering rewarding career opportunities for local residents.”

Aldi Australia continues to expand their presence in the area, with stores at Gungahlin and Casey. The 1500 square metre space will rival the adjacent Coles supermarket which opened in 2017.
