In response to a challenge in the Fair Work Commission by SITA, the Transport Workers Union (TWU) will not be going ahead with proposed industrial action this week which would have impacted on household waste and recycling collection.

“We are pleased the TWU has withdrawn their notice of industrial action and the planned garbage strike will not go ahead tomorrow and Thursday,” said David Roberts, Acting Director, ACT NOWaste.

“Residents are urged to put their bins out as normal. Both garbage and recycling collections will take place to the normal schedule.

“We continue to encourage both the TWU and SITA to agree to an outcome that is not less favourable than the previous contract, and that allows for productivity improvements and efficient modern work practices. Any industrial action would be very disappointing.

“The ACT Government will keep residents updated of any other developments. There are various ways to stay updated including online at www.tams.act.gov.au, downloading the free My Waste app from iTunes or Google Play Store, following @tamsmediaroom on Twitter or calling Canberra Connect on 13 22 81.”
