ACT Policing is preparing yet again for another celebration in Canberra, this time in the form of the Multicultural Festival.
The festival is an event that the whole family can enjoy and will be taking place this weekend, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 February.
Operation Commander for the event, Acting Superintendent Jeff Knight said that as a major sponsor of the festival, the main focus for police is building relationships with the multicultural community.
“We are fortunate to live in a great city here in Australia. For our members in the community from culturally diverse countries, the move here can be daunting and frightening. Our aim by supporting and sponsoring the festival is to reach out and show how police are friendly and here to help, should they ever require our services,” said Acting Superintendent Knight.
“Our crime-fighting koala, Constable Kenny as well as the Search and Rescue Polaris quad, police water jet-ski, the friendly K9 police dogs and our Traffic Operations motorcycles will be a part of the ACT Policing display throughout the weekend,” he said.
“A feature at this year’s festival will be the Canberra Police Community Youth Club (PCYC) interactive video and games equipment for the public to try.”
PCYC provides leading and innovative services for young people and their families across the ACT and has been doing so since 1957. ACT Policing members will be on hand to provide information on home and personal safety, basic laws and regulations and information on how to contact police, emergency services and key support agencies.
“This is an event in the ACT Policing calendar that all members look forward to. I would encourage every Canberran to come out and enjoy what the festival has to offer and maybe meet some new people.”
The ACT Policing stall at the Multicultural Festival will be located on City Walk near the Canberra Centre entrance, opposite the fountain, and will be operating from 10am-6pm on Saturday and 10am-5pm on Sunday.
