On Tuesday, 4th June at 12:45 multiple emergency triple zero (000) calls were made to report a fire in a residence in a town house complex in Franklin.

The residents who were home at the time, a mother and her child safely evacuated themselves.

ACT Fire & Rescue Hazardous Materials Unit, the Breathing Apparatus Van and two commanders were on the scene. The Bronto Skylift Hydraulic Platform was also called in to investigate from the air the extent of the structural damage to the roof.

Although ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics were also on the scene supporting operations no injuries were reported.

At 1:50 ESA reported the fire had been successfully extinguished and advised they would commence monitoring and ventilation operations.

The fire has been reported as starting in the study and has caused extensive damage to the top floor including the roof. The estimated damage is $200,000.

Quick thinking John was able to turn off the electricity & gas before the fire took hold.

Samantha reported on our Facebook page, “Ive just come from there. There I was driving home along Oodgeroo when I saw in the distance alot of smoke bellowing out from a roof thinking thats not chimney smoke, so headed that way while ringing 000. The poor owner just got there before the firies did & watched on, the wife & toddler got out thank god. I was totally amazed at how quick the fire took over in the few minutes I was there even before the firies got there, so frightening.”

Rebecca a neighbour said “It’s very scary what happened we live one house down and watched in horror. Emergency services were amazing did a fantastic job! Thank god no one was hurt.”
