ACT Policing has arrested a 42-year-old man following a siege in Evatt this morning (Wednesday, 12 February) which lasted more than an hour.
About 12.44am police responded to an emergency call stating someone may have been shot at the location.
Belconnen and Gungahlin patrols attended wearing ballistic vests and approached the residence on foot where they encountered an intoxicated man who claimed he had a firearm. .
Police negotiated with the man who emerged suddenly from the house shortly after 2am. He stepped aggressively towards police, hiding an item behind him which was later found to be a 20cm kitchen knife. .
As he approached police, the man was tasered by one of the attending Sergeants. He was then apprehended and taken into custody. .
The man was conveyed to the ACT Watch House where he was assessed and cleared by ACT Ambulance officers..
He will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court this morning to be charged with Possess Offensive Weapon with Intent.
