About 4.30pm on Saturday 10 February 2018, a man entered the Amaroo Shopping Centre on Pioneer Street, Amaroo.
It is alleged the man took items from the store and then leave the store without making payment. When questioned by a staff member it is alleged the man punched the staff member several times before fleeing the store.
Police later arrested a 22-year-old Amaroo man in relation to the incident.
The man was charged with minor theft and assault, and was released on conditional bail to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
