Are you looking for some fun things to do with your family and friends this winter around Canberra? Then look no further. We’ve put together a list of all the cool-est events taking place in July.

Winter in the City

When: Friday 1 July to Sunday 17 July, Sunday to Thursday, 10 am to 8 pm, Friday and Saturday, 10 am to 9 pm
Where: Civic Square – 180 London Circuit, Canberra
Cost: Tickets are from $15 and can be purchased here.

Get ready to skate into the city this winter in Canberra as Civic Square transforms into an open-air ice rink for all to enjoy.

Running from Friday, 1 July, to Sunday, 17 July, the annual Winter in the City event returns with unique experiences, exhibitions, pop-up bars and cosy spaces that capture the essence of winter.

Questacon’s Mid-Winter Nights

When: Wednesday 6 July to Saturday 9 July, 5: 30 pm to 9:30 pm
Where: Questacon – National Science and Technology Centre, King Edward Terrace, Parkes
Cost: Tickets are from $18.90 and can be purchased here.

Returning for the first time since 2019, Questacon’s action-packed Mid-Winter Nights event combines science, live entertainment, liquid nitrogen ice cream and more. It lands in the capital from Wednesday, 6 July to Saturday, 9 July.

Explore the galleries in exclusive sessions from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Then venture outside to the glowing food court and warm up with a hot chocolate or embrace the cooler winter weather with a snow cone.

Christmas in July Markets

When: Saturday 9 July, 10 am to 3 pm
Where: Queanbeyan Showground, Glebe Ave, Queanbeyan
Cost: Free entry.

A special showcase of all things Christmas is rocking around Queanbeyan this July.

On Saturday, the Christmas in July Markets will be taking over Queanbeyan Showground from 10 am to 3 pm to bring you all your festive favourites in one place.

Xmas in July Feast

When: Friday 15 July, from 6 pm
Where: Canberra Southern Cross Club, Jamison, corner of Catchpole and Bowman St, Macquarie
Cost: Tickets are $36 for children 12 and under, and $74 for adults and can be purchased here.

The Canberra Southern Cross Club in Jamison is celebrating Christmas in winter with a special festive buffet of traditional Christmas dishes, including roast ham, turkey, seafood and Christmas pudding for dessert.

There will be a display of cold foods, a salad bar, seafood, a traditional Christmas roast carvery and plenty of Christmas desserts featuring gingerbread houses, yule logs and Christmas puddings.

Canberra’s Winter Carnival

When: Saturday 23 July to Sunday 24 July, 10 am to 5 pm
Where: ACTON Arena, EPIC Showground Corner of Flemington Road and Northbourne Avenue, Mitchell
Cost: Free entry.

On Saturday, 23 July, and Sunday, 24 July, come along to Canberra’s Winter Carnival for seven hours of fun for the whole family. This free-entry event will feature plenty of artificial snow, merchandise stalls, show bags, amusement rides, pony rides, face painting, jumping castles and more to enjoy.

Winter Wonderland at the Haig Park Village Markets

When: Sunday 24 July and Sunday 31 July, 9 am – 2 pm
Where: Haig Park Village Markets, Braddon, ACT
Cost: Free entry

Haig Park Village Markets are warming Braddon up this winter with two weekends’ worth of toasty winter Wonderland-themed market days.

There will be fire pits, live music, mulled wine gardens, live entertainment, winter-themed market stalls, a magician, snowflake and snowman making activities, face painting for kids and much more on offer.
