Road users and pedestrians are advised that a temporary closure on Hinder Street between Anthony Rolfe Avenue and Efkarpidis Street will be in place from Monday 3 September 2018 as work continues on the extension of Ernest Cavanagh Street.

The ACT Government is creating a safer, more vibrant, better connected town centre for the people of Gungahlin. The extension of Ernest Cavanagh Street will provide one lane of traffic in each direction, footpaths on both sides of the road, pedestrian crossings and on street parking bays. The temporary road closure on Hinder Street will allow for kerb, pavement and utility works to be undertaken.

Location and timing of temporary road closure

Hinder Street will be closed southbound from Monday 3 September to Thursday 18 October 2018. There will be no access for road users and pedestrians will also be impacted. To minimise impacts, this closure has been coordinated with other projects currently underway to ensure access is maintained in the Gungahlin Town Centre.

Southbound closure

  • Hinder Street between Anthony Rolfe Avenue and Efkarpidis Street
  • Footpath on eastern side of Hinder Street between Anthony Rolfe Avenue and Hibberson Street.

Detours

During the closure, road users will be detoured via Gozzard Street and Manning Clark Crescent. There will be temporary access in place for pedestrians on the eastern side of Hinder Street for a short time until the footpath on the western side has been completed.

Effects on traffic

  • Minor delays are expected.
  • Barriers as well as warning and diversion signs will be erected to alert people to the closure.
  • Drivers are asked to be mindful of the changed traffic arrangements and adhere to the work zone speed limits.

The ACT Government apologises for the inconvenience and thanks everyone for their patience whilst this important work takes place.
