The Rotary Club of Gungahlin is sponsoring a new community Interact club for Gungahlin high-schoolers aged 12 to 18. Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people.
“Young people have ideas and energy, and they want to contribute to the community,” says Rotary Gungahlin President Sandra Mahlberg. “Interact empowers them to make a real difference in the world while having a great time, making friends, and developing valuable skills”.
The club will design and perform at least two service projects per year, focusing on the local community and international understanding. “This a great networking opportunity for our young leaders,” says Ms. Mahlberg. “Not only will they connect with peers in their local area, they will form international friendships, and they’ll work with local professionals and business leaders.”
In addition to the service projects, members will develop their leadership potential, learn how to run meetings and govern a club, and have the opportunity to apply their unique talents and skills to the club’s activities. All of these benefits will provide a rich experience and contribute to a strong resume for future career development.
Interact may also provide a pathway to other Rotary programs and opportunities. “The benefits are endless,” Ms. Mahlberg says. “Gungahlin is fortunate to have so many talented, community-minded young leaders, and we’re looking forward to bringing some of them together to make a really positive impact in the community.”
Teenaged residents or students from any of the high schools in the Gungahlin region are encouraged to express their interest by contacting Rotary Gungahlin President Sandra Mahlberg on [email protected], or by attending one of the sessions at Gungahlin Library (meeting room 2) every Tuesday between 4.30pm and 5.30pm.
