With significant light rail construction progress being made along Flemington Road, work is soon to begin in Hibberson street. As a result, Hibberson Street will be closing permanently to vehicular traffic from Kate Crace Street to Gungahlin Place from Monday 10 April 2017 in order to start work on the Gungahlin light rail terminus.
Transport Canberra bus users will see diversions to services that travel through the Gungahlin Town Centre from Monday 10 April 2017, allowing for civil works for stage one of the city wide light rail project.
“Buses will divert around Hibberson Street with all services instead travelling along The Valley Avenue. The Gungahlin Bus Station will be temporarily relocated to Gozzard St, just outside the Raiders Club,” Director, Public Transport Operations, Ian McGlinn said.
“Customers will also see a number of permanent bus stop closures that are required to allow for light rail construction. New stops will be opening shortly on the Valley Avenue to provide access to the east of the Gungahlin Town Centre.
“School services that travel through the Gungahlin Town Centre will also divert outside of Hibberson Street. All affected schools have already been notified of these changes.”
Mr McGlinn said that a range of diversions in and around the Gungahlin Town Centre will be in place until late 2017 and encouraged people to stay up to date with changes in the area by following Transport Canberra on facebook or Twitter, by signing up to our weekly email alert and to also take note of all passenger signage in the area.
“Access to the Park and Ride facility on Gozzard Street will not change,” he said.
“This is an exciting time for public transport in Canberra. These works will see the delivery of a new Gungahlin public transport terminus that will provide our customers with a connection between buses and light rail upon commencement of Stage 1 in 2018,” Mr McGlinn concluded.
