Police investigate suspicious fire in Amaroo

A house fire in Amaroo has been deemed suspicious and is being investigated by ACT Policing.

Last night (Thursday, 3 December) police received a report of a house fire in Traine Court, Amaroo.

ACT Fire & Rescue responded to the property in Traine Court with three fire pumpers, breathing apparatus support crew and commander after the alarm was raised at 11:36pm last night.

When fire crews arrived the home was well alight.

The roof partially collapsed before firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.

The sole occupant of the home was woken up and alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm. He safely self evacuated with several neighbours ringing Emergency Triple Zero (000).

The man was not injured.

The initial estimated damage bill is over $300,000.

Police are urging anyone who may have any information on the cause of the fire to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au and provide reference number 5890303. Information can be provided anonymously.Update: Following a more detailed investigation, the fire has been deemed non-suspicious.
