A new transport survey to better understand what people want and need from public transport across Canberra was launched last night at the Tuggeranong Community Council by Minister for Transport and Municipal Services Meegan Fitzharris.

Minister Fitzharris said this new survey will inform the creation of the new Transport Canberra agency, and ensure transport planning is based on how people move around our city.

“This is a comprehensive survey giving Canberrans the opportunity to have their say on future transport planning across our city, around all our regions.

“It offers people a chance to share their insights on what is working well, what could work better and where changes could be made to encourage more people to use public transport.

“Transport planning is important and it’s essential we get it right. I will be listening to the community and making sure we develop a modern integrated transport system that supports how we live, move and grow at all stages of our lives.

“I encourage all Canberrans, including those that don’t currently use public transport, to participate in the survey if possible, which will be conducted via telephone and online.

“The public transport survey will help the ACT Government understand how and why Canberrans use different modes of transport including walking, cycling, buses and cars.

“Understanding the transport needs and priorities for Canberrans is central to our delivery of an integrated transport system.

“We can’t create a system without consulting the community about what they want to see, and I’m excited to get people’s feedback so we can create a system that works for everyone in our city, no matter where you live,” said Minister Fitzharris.
