ACT Policing has arrested a 47-year-old man for multiple offences, and he will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Monday, 23 July).
It is alleged on Thursday, 19 July he took a car key from a business in Mitchell, before returning that night to steal the car.
Police will allege the offender stole cash and items from a Fyshwick business on Friday, 20 July before leaving in the car he had stolen overnight.
On Saturday, 21 July the stolen vehicle was seen parked outside another Fyshwick business, by a member of the public.
Police were called, and when they arrived chased the offender, who ran through the business’s garage and into an office. As police were trying to gain entry to the office, the offender smashed a window and attempted to escape.
Several bystanders and police chased the man. One of the bystanders caught up with the man first, and that bystander was bitten by the offender as police were approaching.
Police transported the man to the ACT Watch House, where he was charged with 10 offences including two counts of possessing a prohibited substance, taking a motor vehicle without consent, unlicensed driving, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, property damage and burglary.
ACT Policing anticipate the man will face further charges via summons at a later date.
