Capital Metro Agency staff will hold public consultation sessions in Canberra’s north and south this weekend with visits to Gungahlin, tomorrow, and Erindale, on Sunday to further discuss the proposed design for light rail in Canberra.
It is the agency’s second visit to Gungahlin during the six week consultation process and first to Erindale.
Minister for Capital Metro, Simon Corbell, urged Canberrans to come down and have their say on how they want light rail to look, before the consultation period ends.
“There will be information for you to comment on, learn about and ask questions of agency staff,” Mr Corbell said.v “As this is an early design, no decisions have been made on the final product, so this is the most opportune time to influence the end design.”
The current design proposal has been created based on in depth planning and builds on previous community feedback. v “The feedback provided during the consultation will feed into next stages of design that will provide the basis for expressions of interest later this year.
“It is vital the community take the opportunity to provide their feedback on how they would like the system to look and operate.
“Light Rail will deliver so much more than a transport benefit for Canberra and this is why the ACT Government has been so intent on planning for Canberra’s future and we are committed to delivering city-changing infrastructure. We look forward to hearing what the community have to say about these great designs.”
The team will be set up at the information centre at the Gungahlin Shopping Centre, in the Big W Building between 9.30am and 1.30pm tomorrow (Saturday, 2 August) and in the Erindale Centre, Wanniassa, on Sunday, 3 August. There will be a final information session at the Tuggeranong Hyperdome on Friday, 8 August, in front of Kmart/Coles, between 11.30am and 2.30pm.
