On Friday the 17 April 2015 tragedy struck an Amaroo family in a freak accident while visiting family at North Arm Cove, NSW. Laura Hunter and her 9 week old daughter Molly received burns and were both airlifted to Sydney for treatment. Laura received extensive burns to her hands, arm, legs and back. Molly received burns to her leg, arm, and head. Laura’s eldest daughter, who attends Amaroo Primary School, fortunately escaped the fire unhurt. Laura’s sister received minor burns as well as losing her home.
Laura has been in Royal North Shore Hospital for the past 5 weeks receiving treatment for her burns. She has returned home this week to Amaroo this week. However for the foreseeable future she must attend Sydney every Tuesday and Thursday for burns dressing changes. She must also attend physiotherapy to learn to walk again.
As you can imagine this accident has impacted greatly upon the family in many ways including financially. Laura’s partner is self employed and has lost many weeks in wages due to caring for his family in Sydney.
Donations are being sought from local businesses and community for an online Facebook auction to raise money to support Laura and her family for ongoing medical treatment.
