Green waste collection calendars are now available in preparation for the final stage of the green waste bins roll-out on 1 April as more than 50,000 Canberra households sign up to the service.

“We are investing in better services for our growing city and have delivered this election commitment ahead of schedule,” said Minister for City Services Chris Steel.

“From Monday 1 April, the ACT’s green bins will be collected on the alternate fortnight to your recycling bin day. If your normal fortnightly recycling day is Monday, then your green bin will go out on Monday the following week.

“Aligning green bin collections with garbage and recycling will make using the service even easier and help to remember when bins need to be put on the kerb.

“Green bins help reduce garden organic waste going into landfill, are convenient and are saving Canberrans time and money.

“More than 8,000 tonnes of organic garden waste have been collected from green bins since the start of the initial pilot in April 2017, which would have otherwise gone to landfill.”

“I encourage residents to register for this convenient, fortnightly service for a one-off $50 payment, or free for eligible concession card holders,” said Minister Steel.
