Gungahlin’s new community arts Officer Michele Grimston has just arrived in town! Michele has joined the team at Belconnen Art Centre and over the next three years she will be working to create pop up arts programs and events to bring to life Gungahlin and surrounding suburbs.
Over this time, she’ll be working with the community, and with visual artists, dancers, performers, poets, designers and more to generate opportunities for children, families and adults to participate in all forms of the arts. There will also be more opportunities for local artists to share their work closer to home as the program develops.
Gungahlin arts is supported by the ACT Government, and works on a Community Arts and Cultural Development model. This means that the programs and events are driven and shaped in response to the needs of the local community.
Michele is very keen to hear from people who live and work here, to understand what people want and need, and also to learn more about the many great things that are already happening in the area.
“I’m having such a wonderful time getting to know the people and places of Gungahlin and discovering all the hidden gems that are already part of this community. People have been so welcoming, and there’s such a lot of excitement about building more creative opportunities here. I just can’t wait to see how the program develops over the next three years,” says Michele
Michele will be popping up around Gungahlin throughout May to chat with residents and capture what people love about the region, and how art can make it better.Keep an eye out for her in your travels!
People who live, work or play in and around Gungahlin can also help to shape the program by completing this 5 minute community survey.https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JGNHXZG
