This week, Communities@Work hosted a Christmas lunch for 35 clients around the Gungahlin area who otherwise won’t have the opportunity to have a traditional lunch on Christmas day. The individuals and families who sat down for the lunch are those who access Communities@Work’s Social Programs, including the community pantry, the clothing program and various services within Communities@Work.
The day was the definition of a team effort and incredible community spirit. Not one item of food was purchased for the lunch. All food items and gifts for the clients were instead donated by a number of generous local Gungahlin businesses and collected in the six weeks leading up to the day. The food was prepared, cooked and served by a group of wonderful volunteers from the Rotary Club of Canberra Sunrise.
The day was a huge success and one that wouldn’t have been made possible without the support of the Gungahlin community and dedicated volunteers.
A special thank you goes to the following businesses who donated both gifts for those who attended the lunch and food:
