Free buses will help Canberrans attending Friday night’s Super Rugby finals match between the AQUIS Brumbies and the Highlanders at GIO Stadium avoid the hassles of traffic and parking at the ground.

“Free chartered buses will depart regularly from 4pm at major bus stations, with the last bus departing Belconnen bus station at 5.15pm,” Minister for Transport and City Services Meegan Fitzharris said.

“Charter buses will commence return travel to the above bus stations about 20 minutes after the game.

“Free travel on all ACTION buses will also be available for all football fans carrying a ticket to the game from 3pm on Friday.

“ACTION’s Blue Rapid services also provide a great option to travel to the game providing service to Haydon Drive, within walking distance of the stadium.”

With heavy traffic expected around the stadium area once gates open at 4pm, Minister Fitzharris is reminding commuters attending the game to get there early. Heavy traffic and major delays are expected around surrounding roads at Bruce, in particular Ginninderra Drive. Motorists and other road users are advised to use alternate routes where possible.

“To allow for ACTION peak services to continue uninterrupted, I would like to thank the team at QCity Transit for assisting with these chartered services to the football,” Minister Fitzharris said.

“I encourage all football fans attending the game to plan their travel early to avoid disappointment. I’d also like to wish our Brumbies the best for the match,” Minister Fitzharris concluded.
