Art in Place is a program offered by Belco Arts which offers artists the opportunity to create new work in any artistic medium for presentation within the Gungahlin area. The opportunity is open to artists who live or work in the Gungahlin region, or who can demonstrate a strong connection to the area.
We invite you to use this quiet time to delve into the creative process, and we anticipate that presentation of work will happen in 2021. Presentation opportunities include the Celebrate Gungahlin Festival, which is scheduled to be held in the Gungahlin Town Centre on 31 March 2021, and will feature multiple stages for entertainment, exhibitions in alternative venues (for example, cafés and shopping centres), roving performances, workshops and children’s activities. Artists may also nominate other avenues for presentation that best suit the nature of their works, keeping in mind that works must be presented within the Gungahlin area.
Successful projects will receive $2,000 in artists’ fees for their project. Projects will also receive in-kind support from Gungahlin Arts to present their work, including assistance with logistics, production, marketing, and the opportunity to meet and share ideas with other project participants as required. Artists will receive an initial payment of $1,000 on signing the contract, a further payment of $500 upon evidence of completing the proposed work and a final payment of $500 when the work is presented in 2021. Artists will be selected by a panel of arts professionals, and applications which demonstrate strong relevance to the Gungahlin community will be favourably received.
Given the lack of formal exhibition and performance spaces within the region, artists are encouraged to contact Gungahlin Programs Officer, Michele Grimston, on [email protected] or on 0403 929 739 to discuss their application and presentation requirements before submitting.
