ACT Policing is investigating reports of vehicles and residences being damaged across several Gungahlin suburbs Sunday (19 January) night.

At least ten Harrison, Bonner, Palmerston, Forde and Amaroo residents were targeted, in what are believed to be related incidents. Windows and lights of parked vehicles were targeted. In the majority of cases golf balls were located in, or around the damaged vehicles. Eggs were also reported as being used to damage vehicles.

On the same night, six residences in Casey were damaged by golf balls being hit into the area from unoccupied land. While exact damage is still being determined, the final costs of the damage are believed to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.

The damage is believed to be linked to an earlier burglary at Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club. Offenders broke into a building at the driving range, stealing golf balls, confectionary and soft drinks.

Acting Officer-in-Charge of Gungahlin Police Station Andrew Mitchell said information from the public was critical in identifying the offenders in these incidents.

“The residents of Gungahlin have the right to expect their vehicles and premises will remain safe while they sleep. Incidents like this don’t just happen without some wider discussion from the offenders before and after the event. I urge anyone with any information, no matter how small, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. You can provide information anonymously,” Acting Station Sergeant Mitchell said.

“I’d also ask any victims of similar property damage who haven’t yet reported the matter to police, to please do so. You can report the matter personally at your local police station, or give us a call on 131-444”.
