Motorists will be able to move around Gungahlin’s town centre more easily with today’s announcement that construction of Camilleri Way, a new road to the south of The Valley Avenue between Manning Clark Crescent and Gungahlin Place, is now complete and open to traffic.
Minister for Roads Chris Steel announced the project’s completion and said that progress on the road network being made in the Gungahlin region and more widely across the Territory.
“I’m really pleased to announce the completion of Camilleri Way today. This is a brand new connection that will improve access in and around the Gungahlin town centre,” said Minister Steel.
“The completion of Camilleri Way follows on from the start of operations at the new Gungahlin Bus Station in April this year. Work also continues to progress on the Ernest Cavanagh Street extension, the Hibberson Street shared zone, Gundaroo Drive, and Horse Park Drive with all traffic lights on Horse Park Drive now operational.”
Construction of Camilleri Way needed to be completed ahead of works to construct a four way signalised intersection at Kate Crace Street and The Valley Avenue. This work will now get underway and road users are advised that there will be a closure of the intersection during construction. During this time all traffic will be diverted to Camilleri Way. Works are expected to be completed in fourth quarter 2018.
“The ACT Government understand there is lots of construction happening across Canberra. In Gungahlin in particular there are many projects concurrently underway. However we are committed to creating a better Gungahlin Town Centre and these projects are building towards that,” concluded Minister Steel.
