Canberrans should expect delays as a result of rolling road closures from midday on Thursday 5 January along the Federal Highway and Northbourne Avenue to allow the Summernats City Cruise to take place.
“This year, as Summernats celebrates its 30th anniversary, a large number of vehicles are expected to take part as well as a large crowd of onlookers,” Transport Canberra and City Services Traffic Management and Safety senior manager, Rifaat Shoukrallah, said.
“We want to see people enjoy this event in safety and, to allow this, temporary road closures will be in place.”
City Cruise route
The Cruise will leave from the entrance to Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC) off Flemington Road. It will travel down the Federal Highway and Northbourne Avenue to the intersection with London Circuit. It will then return along Northbourne Avenue, concluding at the entrance to EPIC at the intersection of the Federal Highway and Stirling Avenue.

Information for spectators
The Cruise will travel at approximately 30 kilometres per hour with a police escort involving a lead car and trailing car to ensure a consistent spread throughout the Cruise,” Mr Shoukrallah said.
“Roads ACT will coordinate the traffic lights for the Cruise to ensure it proceeds smoothly and to minimise delays to other motorists. Access will be maintained for emergency service.”
Uniformed police officers will have a presence along the route to assist with crowd control. All road rules will apply for the event. Staff from the Road Transport Authority will be monitoring vehicles prior to their participation.
