ACT Policing continues to urge motorists to drive safely or face harsh consequences after a 23-year-old Forde man was caught at 70km/h over the speed limit yesterday (Friday, November 25).
Around 10:50pm, Gungahlin General Duties officers were patrolling in an unmarked police vehicle on Flemington Road when they detected a motorcycle travelling at 140km/h in a sign-posted 70km/h speed zone. Police activated their emergency lights and directed the rider to stop.
The 23-year-old will be issued with a Traffic Infringement Notice for exceeding the posted speed limit by 70km/h, an $1831 fine and 6 demerit points.
Acting Superintendent of Traffic Operations, Susan Ball said the incident was a reminder to those who disregard the speed limit, that they will be caught.
“We continue to urge everyone in the community to think about road safety as their personal responsibility leading into the Christmas holidays,” said Acting Superintendent Ball.
