Today the ACT Government handed down the budget for financial year 2016 – 2017 and these are the key notes for Gungahlin.
As reported earlier this week there is funding for expanding a number of the Gungahlin schools More classrooms, better facilities for schools in CBR’s fastest growing region
The main points of this funding is:
- expansion of the facilities at Harrison School, Neville Bonner Primary School and Palmerston Preschool for the start of 2017 school year; and
- expansion of the facilities at Amaroo School for the start of the 2018 school year.
This is on top of the committed P-6 school in Taylor and the feasibility study for an extra high school in Gungahlin.
$57 million has been allocated to complete the duplication of Horse Park Drive between the Federal Highway and Mulligans Flat Road.
$4.5 million has been allocated to extend Ernest Cavanagh Street from Hinder Streete to Manning Clark Crescent. This in addition to the extension of The Valley Avenue and the connection from Flemington road to Anthony Rolfe provides options for ring road access around the town centre.
$6.9million for road maintenance and landscape features on the Majura Parkway and Gungahlin Drive.
Earlier today we also shared that there will be $300,000 to design new pedestrian priority zone for Hibberson Street. More feet on Hibberson St: New design to be funded in ACT Budget
What would have been good to see is additional funding for additional police resources in Gungahlin to deal with the expanding population and patrol areas. I would also would have liked to have seen funding for a nurse led walk in clinic at the Gungahlin health centre.
