New Years day saw a record number of participants take part in a special parkrun event at Gungahlin smashing the previous record set on New Years Day 2018. On New Years Day 2019 parkrun hosted events at Gungahlin at 7:30am and Tuggeranong at 9:30am allowing people the option to take part in both events, the only day of the year this is an option.

A total of 599 people took part in Gungahlin breaking last New Years Day record of 519. Gungahlin continues to hold the record in Canberra for the most amount of participants at a single event. 324 of the 599 made the trek to Tuggeranong to achieve the double along with 268 other runners making it 592 running at Tuggeranong.

A number of Gungahlin parkrun regulars reached milestones achieving 100 and 200 parkruns celebrating together on the day.
