Minister for Racing and Gaming Joy Burch today urged horse lovers to put 15 November in their diaries for the Unbridled Festival of Horses, Music and Food at Thoroughbred Park.
Ms Burch and Greg Nugent, General Manager of the ACT Harness Racing Club, officially launched Unbridled today, accompanied by the club’s stables curator Adrian Sexton and his sons Harry, 9, and Zack, 2.
“First mooted as ‘Summernats in the Saddle’, Unbridled has blossomed into a celebration of the horse, with show jumping, trick riding and even a jousting competition,” Ms Burch said.
“We know that Canberrans are keen equestrians, with the ACT having the highest ownership of horses per head in Australia.
“But the beauty of Unbridled is that it is not just for horse owners or riders. There will be something for everyone, with music, entertainment and a grand bazaar-style food and craft market.
“The ACT Government is supporting Unbridled as an innovative new festival which will attract visitors from around the region and beyond.
“In my role as Minister for Racing and Gaming, I know how dedicated our racing codes are to providing entertainment while also promoting an understanding of the horse as an integral part of the region’s history.
“I would like to thank Greg Nugent for his vision in creating this festival, which I am sure will turn into a regular event in the Canberra event calendar. I am looking forward to 15 November and encourage all Canberrans to get in fast and buy their tickets.”
