The 16-year-old and 17-year-old are accused of stealing a backpack from a Cringan Circuit gym at about 1:05 pm on Wednesday (5 July), allegedly using the keys from within the bag to take off with a red Holden Barina from the car park.
Police further alleged at about 1:15 pm on the same day, the pair went to another gym on Hibberson St where it’s believed they stole a handbag with the keys to a white Holden Commodore, which was also subsequently taken.
Officers attended both gyms and used footage from CCTV to identify the alleged offenders.
The 17-year-old boy was spotted by officers in Duffy at about 2 pm on Thursday (6 July).
Police said he was arrested after being found hiding in some bushes.
He’s been charged with breaching a good behaviour order, joint commission aggravated burglary, and two counts of joint commission taking a motor vehicle without consent.
A short time later, the 16-year-old boy was arrested at a Duffy home and charged with two counts of taking a motor vehicle without consent, burglary, an active arrest warrant for other offences and breach of bail.
Both are scheduled to front ACT Children’s Court on Friday (7 July).
