The ACT Emergency Services Agency and ACT Policing will be conducting a test of the telephone emergency warning system known as EMERGENCY ALERT this Saturday afternoon 3 May 2014 between midday and 4pm.

As part of the test, people who live, or have phones registered on targeted streets in the suburbs of Turner, O’Conner, Fadden, Gowrie, Macarthur, Gungahlin, Conder and their surrounding suburbs, or are visiting the Cotter Reserve might receive test messages.

Depending on the system features selected for each test, the types of messages might include recorded voice messages to landlines, text messages to mobile phones, or depending on the test area, people may receive both.

There is no need for message recipients to respond or take any action.

The test will provide valuable training for emergency personnel in the use and capability of the Emergency Alert system in the ACT.

In some instances, the service address of telephones might be used to target warning messages, so it is important that the service address for telephones are kept up to date with telephone carriers. The service address may be different to billing addresses.
