The successful 101 Local Humans will be invited this week to join the second chapter of VisitCanberra’s award-winning Human Brochure advocacy campaign to help promote their city.
One of the 101 Local Humans is local mummy blogger Lisa Berriman from www.mummysundeservedblessings.com/
There are a growing number of interstate domestic visitors coming to Canberra to visit their friends and relatives – around 34 per cent according to Tourism Research Australia’s latest National Visitor Survey.
The second instalment of Human Brochure will seek to grow awareness and visitation to Canberra by connecting potential visitors with locals through stories, experiences and social media.
The 101 Local Humans application process highlighted some interesting patterns of social media activity in the national capital with a higher application rate base on population than the first Human Brochure.
More than 1150 applications were received, with more than 500 vying for spots in the most popular category: food and wine. The most popular suburbs for applicants were from Canberra’s inner city, with Kingston and Braddon leading the charge. Acton, Turner, Ainslie and O’Connor were also among the 10 most represented suburbs.
Other findings included:
- Applicants included preferred social media channels to support their application. Facebook proved to be the most popular social media platform from those provided with 95 per cent of applicants listing Facebook accounts. Twitter, Instagram and Google plus were the next most popular social media platforms, with 56 per cent of applicants Tweeting, 42 per cent sharing photos on Instagram and 40 per cent networking on Google plus.
- Canberra women make up 81 per cent of applicants for the campaign.
- While the greatest number of applications came from women aged between 20-35 years, there was a consistent representation of both men and women aged 40 years and above.
The first round of offers will be sent during the week. Once all acceptances are in, unsuccessful applicants will also be notified and the journey of 101 Local Humans begins.
The successful 101 Local Humans will receive a taste of the very best tourism experiences the city has to offer, enjoying exclusive after hours events. They will also get the opportunity to invite a local and interstate friend or relative to Canberra at the end of October to share in one of 101 VIP experiences.
Content generated through their social media channels will be aggregated onto the humanbrochure.com.au website where the entire community can follow the journey.
