From Wednesday 21 May 2014 the ACT Parks and Conservation Service will continue an ongoing fox control program within the Mulligans Flat and Goorooyaroo Nature Reserves.
Urban Reserves, Sanctuary Ranger in Charge, Stephen Wilkes, said the purpose of the program is to control feral predators in the reserves to help protect native fauna and reintroduced species within the Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary.
“The program will be conducted under licence using 1080 poison,” Mr Wilkes said.
“Baits will be shallow buried and will not be placed within 500 metres of residential properties. Pet owners are advised that domestic dogs are at risk of poisoning and there is no effective antidote to 1080.
“Dogs are not permitted in Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve and the neighbouring Goorooyaroo Nature Reserves.
“The fox control program is to aid the protection of native species in Mulligans Flat and Goorooyaroo Nature Reserves.
“Signage has been placed at the entrances to the reserves to inform residents that 1080 poison is being used in the area for fox control and that dogs are prohibited.”
