ACT Policing continues to urge motorists to drive safely or face harsh consequences after a 26-year-old Bonner man was caught speeding more than 45km/h over the speed limit yesterday (Friday, June 10).
Around 2.50pm, Gungahlin Patrol detected a Red Daytona Triumph motorcycle (600cc) travelling on Horse Park Drive, Moncrieff, at 128km/h in a sign-posted 80km/h speed zone.
The rider of the motorcycle was not wearing any protective riding gear other than a helmet.
He was issued with a Traffic Infringement Notice for exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 45km/h, an $1821 fine and 12 demerit points.
Officer in Charge of Gungahlin Police Station, Station Sergeant Rod Anderson said the incident was a reminder that those who drive dangerously would be caught.
“With double demerit in effect until midnight on Monday, motorists should think carefully about what it would mean to lose their licence,” Station Sergeant Anderson said.
“But more importantly, think about what it would mean if they or their loved ones were involved in a serious collision as a result of dangerous driving.”
“We continue to urge everyone in the community to think about road safety as their personal responsibility these holidays.”
Double demerits have been in effect since the first instance on Friday, 10 June and will remain until midnight on Monday 13 June 2016.
