Today ACT Fire & Rescue were called to a house fire at Laptz Close in Palmerston just after 3:30pm. Upon arriving at the scene the firefighters observed fire and smoke coming from the roof of the property.
Four pumpers, the breathing apparatus support vehicle, a HAZMAT vehicle and two commanders responded to the call.
After 4pm the fire was extinguished and it was reported the home has sustained major damage.
During the operation ACT Fire & Rescue retrieved a dog from the home. Station Officer (SO) Jeff Sheetz discovered Cleo the dog after gaining access to the rear of the property during firefighting operations.
“I couldn’t see the dog because of the smoke but I felt her at my feet,” said SO Sheetz.
Cleo was thankfully unharmed and her owners were very relieved when they were reunited.
“Whilst we couldn’t save the house, we are glad Cleo is safe.” sad ACT Fire and Rescue Commander Cameron.
