ACT Policing has seized drugs, a firearm, fireworks and cash during four separate and unrelated search warrants yesterday (24 March).

Acting Crime Manager Detective Sergeant Steve Ladd said the four unrelated seizures showed that intelligence-led policing achieves results.

“Any amount of drugs or firearms removed from criminal hands and off the streets of Canberra is a job well done for ACT Policing, but four drug seizures of this scale in one day is an outstanding result,” Detective Sergeant Ladd said.

“This goes to show that information received, either through reports from the public or during the course of police investigations, is acted on appropriately and can lead to the seizure of prohibited items and the identification offenders.”

Search warrant on Duffy residence

About 7am yesterday, members of Woden patrol executed a Drug of Dependence Act search warrant at a residence in Duffy following an investigation. During the warrant police located and seized an amount of dry cannabis and four mature cannabis plants. The plants growing at the location were growing within an elaborate hydroponic system which was also seized.

A 40-year-old Duffy man will be summonsed to the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.

Search warrant on Holt residence

About 1.30pm yesterday, members of Belconnen patrol executed a Drug of Dependence Act search warrant at a residence in Holt after receiving information from the public. During the warrant police located and seized an amount of dry cannabis, four mature cannabis plants and drug paraphernalia.

Whilst searching the premises police also located a number of chemical substances and liquids suspected of being used to manufacture drugs and/or explosives. As a result, members of the Bomb Response Team and an AFP chemist were requested and attended. The substances were analysed and determined safe to handle. A number of fireworks were also located and removed by the Bomb Response Team for safe disposal.

A 34-year-old Holt man will be summonsed to the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.

Search warrant on vehicle

Yesterday afternoon, members of Criminal Investigations executed a search warrant on a vehicle and seized a 12 gauge double-barrel shot gun, shot gun ammunition, an amount of a crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine, an amount of a substance suspected to be steroids, cannabis seeds, drug paraphernalia and a sum of cash.

A 42-year-old Evatt woman will be summonsed to the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.

The search warrant on the vehicle was executed in relation to an assault which occurred about 11.30pm on Saturday 22 March at a residence in Dunlop. During the assault a 27-year-old Kambah male sustained stab wounds to his chest and torso and was taken to The Canberra Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Investigations into the assault are ongoing.

Search warrant on Ngunnawal residence

About 8pm, police attended a Ngunnawal residence after receiving a report that two persons had been seen breaking into the house. On attending the incident, police did not locate persons of interest but observed evidence of a hydroponic set-up and cannabis plants at the residence. Members of Criminal Investigations then obtained a Drug of Dependence Act search warrant and searched the premises. During the search police seized seven mature cannabis plants and hydroponic equipment.

Investigations into this matter are ongoing.
