ACT Policing is urging motorists to drive safely over the ANZAC Day long weekend and warns that double demerit points will be in place from the first instance on Friday 22 April 2016 through until the last instance on Monday 25 April 2016.

All speed and seatbelt offences, the use of a mobile phone while driving, driving with a passenger in or on part of the vehicle not designed for carriage of passengers or goods, and riding a motorbike without a helmet will incur double demerit points. All other offences will incur one extra demerit point.

Officer-in-Charge of Traffic Operations, Station Sergeant Susan Ball said police will continue to target all dangerous behaviour on our roads over the ANZAC Day long weekend.

“Remember to take regular rest breaks if you are travelling interstate and be patient on the roads. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
