ALDI Australia continues to expand their presence in Canberra, with the securing of a commercial lease in Marquee, a mixed – use development located in the centre of Amaroo. The 1500sqm space will rival the adjacent Coles supermarket which opened earlier this year.
According to Alex Smith, Managing Director of Laing+Simmons Commercial, “The introduction of ALDI to Amaroo will increase competition and choice for residents living in the area. With two large supermarkets, there will be an increase of customers flowing to the centre, creating opportunities for local businesses.” Mr Smith said.
“The strong population growth of the area is the primary reason we chose this location. The store will support jobs for 15 – 20 full and part-time employees, offering rewarding career opportunities for local residents.” An ALDI Australia representative said.
More and more people are being drawn to the area around Amaroo, which is why Claudio Alarcon, CEO of Empire Global, the developers behind Marquee, is excited to be working in this space and is pleased to have secured ALDI as a tenant.
“When looking at developments, we always have a focus on community. The selection of commercial leases plays an immense role in creating a successful precinct. ALDI’s presence in Amaroo is a great result for the Gungahlin community”
Marquee will comprise of 107 residential units, approximately 3,000sqm of retail commercial space and an abundance of customer parking spaces for shoppers.
Retail lease agreements have been signed by an Asian inspire restaurant called Wok of Ages and a gastropub with two retail tenancies remaining.
Building completion is scheduled for the second half of 2018.
