The NSW Bushfires we have seen over the last couple of days have seen an impact hundreds of kilometres away here in Gungahlin. Perhaps its because of the Canberra firestorm ten years ago or just the Australian way of mateship but people are looking to help those affected in Sydney. Read on how you can help.
Today a couple of stories demonstrate the common stories we hear when it comes to bushfires, the indiscriminate nature of the fires. A friend of mine was worried last night about her mother in laws property in Winmalee as was one of our followers Lisa from Mummy’s Undeserved Blessings Blog. Talking with my friend this afternoon she discovered her mother in laws house had been saved. There was so much devastation in the street with many homes lost.
Lisa shared privately with us last night that they were certain her mother in laws place was lost. This was her husband’s Tim’s home he grew up in. His sister and her children were sharing this home with their mum. Lisa shared this story with followers on her Facebook page this morning Mummy’s Undeserved Blessings Facebook. If you would like to help Lisa’s family, donations can be made here: http://www.gofundme.com/4uoa3g
Our graphic designer Donna from Donnas Creations shared on her Facebook page that one of her clients Kylie, from Butterfly Garden Hair had lost her home today as well. Jodie from Pretty Little Things is organising a fundraiser for Kylie by taking donations from businesses for an auction.
Lyndal got in touch today and has offered to assist in receiving donations of non-perishable food, hygiene/sanitary items, baby items, toys and clothes. Other assistance required is someone who has a truck or large van to transport the items to Penrith. Depending on donations more storage space may also be required. If you can help or donate items please contact Lyndal on 0408 436 182.
I am sure there is so many more stories. To further assist the Salvos are taking donations: https://salvos.org.au/donate/secure-online-donations/
