Today we find out who has successfully nominated for the ACT Election being held on 15th October. In this election we will see the size of the ACT Legislative Assembly grow to 25 members and as such the boundaries for the electorates has changed. The ACT has been divided into five electorates with each electorate having 5 Members representing them in the Assembly.
Gungahlin is in the Yerrabi electorate which also includes Hall, the Belconnen suburbs of Evatt, Giralang, Kaleen, Lawson and McKellar. The previous electorate we sat in took in a much larger area of Canberra including inner north and Weston Creek. Now Gungahlin will be able to get better representation with more Members and their focus narrowed to a much smaller area of Canberra. Yerrabi has the second highest number of enrolled voters at 59,188 of all five electorates.
I believe that this election is very important for Gungahlin to vote in the best representatives for our community. Noting the change to the electoral boundaries and the increased representation it is vital we take the time to study the candidates and vote accordingly. We are a growing area and some important decisions must be made for Gungahlin now to set us up for the future. We will present information to you on the candidates running in Yerrabi however we do encourage you to take the time to stop and chat with them when you see them down at the shops or they are door knocking. This is your best opportunity to find out more about our potential representatives.
