Sirens Cheerleaders is sending a team of 14 teen athletes to compete in Palm Springs, California USA, next week. This is the ACT’s first cheerleading team to compete internationally.
The athletes have spent much of their school holidays preparing an exciting routine of stunts, jumps, dance, tumbling and high-flying tosses, to compete against some the best teams in the USA. They are performing their routine for family and friends this Sunday morning in Mitchell.
Head coach Rianna Macdougall says the girls have worked hard to be ready in time with their new routine after a busy year in 2014. “We finished Nationals in late November, so this team has had a big task in a short amount of time to prepare for the Duel in the Desert competition.
“All our families are looking forward to the trip and have fundraised to assist the girls to fulfill their dreams. Competitive cheerleading is a wonderful way to have a lot of fun travelling as part of a team and to learn to work hard towards goals.”
The team will compete twice while it is in the USA and will visit Disneyland, Hollywood, Venice Beach and shopping malls, as well as support other Australian teams and watch their favourite USA teams.
National-champion winning program Sirens Cheerleaders is home to 150 male and female athletes aged from 18 months to adults. Sirens runs dance, cheer, stunt and tumbling classes and even has toddlers and parents squads.
Competitive cheerleading is an increasingly popular sport. Sirens Cheerleaders is now welcoming new athletes to its family for Term 1 at www.cheerleadersaustralia.com.au.
