Road users are advised that a temporary closure will be in place on Abena Avenue in both directions between Narden Street and Gundaroo Drive from Sunday 5 May 2019 as work continues on the second stage of the duplication of Gundaroo Drive.

Location and timing of temporary road closure

Abena Avenue will be closed in both directions between Narden Street and Gundaroo Drive from Sunday 5 to Monday 6 May 2019 from 7 pm to 6 am. This closure will allow asphalting works to take place on the new westbound carriageway (towards Belconnen) on Gundaroo Drive. In the event of unexpected delays, including inclement weather, roadside signage will alert drivers to any additional days required.

Detours

During the closure, road users will be detoured in and out of Crace via Nudurr Drive. Motorists will still be able to travel westbound on Gundaroo Drive (towards Belconnen) with one lane to remain open at all times.

Effects on public transport

Bus diversions will be in place. For more information visit www.transport.act.gov.au.

Effects on traffic

  • Delays are expected.
  • Barriers as well as warning and diversion signs will be erected to alert people to the closure.
  • Drivers are asked to be mindful of the changed traffic arrangements and adhere to the work zone speed limits.

Final line marking will occur over the coming weeks in off-peak hours. This asphalting work brings this section one step closer to the opening of all four lanes. The speed limit will remain at 60km/h until these works are complete and conditions are deemed safe to lift the speed limit to 80km/h. Road users are reminded to drive carefully and follow the directions of signage and traffic controllers.

The community will have noticed that works have begun on the section of Gundaroo Drive between Gungahlin Drive and Nudurr Drive. The project team are busy with utility relocations, removal of the now defunct gas main and duplication of the two bridges in this section. The project remains on track to be completed mid 2020.
