Two teenage boys, aged 15 and 16, will face the ACT Children’s Court today in relation to a spate of burglaries across five Gungahlin suburbs in the early hours of Monday, 2 January.
The break-ins occurred at 19 shops in Casey Market Town, Nicholls, Palmerston, Gold Creek and Crace shops.
Police were called to the Nicholls shops at around 3:30 am on Monday following reports of a burglary at the location. While attending the Nicholls shops, police received another report of a burglary at the Crace shops.
Police attended both locations and identified burglaries at three shops at Nicholls and two at Crace.
Further reports from the public and police enquiries revealed a further three burglaries at the Palmerston shops, two at the Gold Creek shops, and nine at the Casey shops.
The two boys were arrested in Giralang at about 6 am the same day.
The 15-year-old boy has been charged with joint commission going equipped for theft, two counts of joint commission burglary – intent to commit theft, and breach of bail.
The 16-year-old boy has been charged with joint commission going equipped for theft and two counts of joint commission burglary – intent to commit theft.
Investigations into the burglaries remain ongoing. Further charges against the pair and others are anticipated.
